STATE STANDARDS FOR ELIGIBILITY

Oregon School Activities Association (OSAA) state academic guidelines for participation in athletics:

The student must have earned 5 credits in the previous semester. This does not apply to incoming freshman for fall and winter sports.

The student must be enrolled in and passing 5 credits in the current semester.

The student must be making satisfactory progress toward graduation, defined as having completed 4.5 credits prior to their sophomore year, 10.0 prior to junior year and 17 prior to senior year.

PARTICIPATION REQUIREMENTS

OSAA Basic Eligibility Rules

  1. Must not be older than 19 on August 15.

  2. Must reside in the Hidden, North, or Illinois Valley attendance area or be on an inter-district transfer. All transfer students must check to see if they meet OSAA requirements.

  3. Must have passed five out of seven classes the previous semester. This does not apply to incoming Freshman for fall and winter sports.

  4. Must be enrolled in, and currently passing, five TRSD credit courses.

  5. All athletes must have a physical examination form on file in the Athletics Office. Physicals are required in the 9th and 11th grades. In the 10th and 12th grades, TRSD requires an annual medical history form to be completed and filed in the Athletic Office.

Home School Student Academic Eligibility

(a) Minimum Test Score. A home school student who transfers to a public or private school may establish initial academic eligibility by achieving a minimum score on any adopted achievement test pursuant to ORS 339.035. The student shall achieve a minimum composite test score that places the student at or above the 23rd percentile based on national norms.

(b) Test Deadline. The achievement test must be completed prior to August 15 each school year.

(c) Work Sample Alternative. In the absence of achievement test results submitted by the deadline of August 15 each school year, a school district may adopt alternative requirements including but not limited to a requirement that a student submit a portfolio of work samples to a school district committee for review to determine whether a student is eligible to participate in interscholastic activities.

THREE RIVERS SCHOOL DISTRICT ACADEMIC POLICY

Students will be eligible to be on the team and practice based on the above state standards. However, to be eligible to participate in competition on a weekly basis, student-athletes will be required to have 5 classes in which they have a grade of "C" or better and no "F's." Our Academic Coaches will monitor grades on a weekly basis. Students who are not meeting the standards will be required to meet with them twice weekly to work on individualized plans for improving their academic performance. In certain cases, they may allow students to play who are below the district standard but are working hard and showing satisfactory progress toward meeting standard.

TRSD Participation Requirements

  1. Athletes must be registered at HV, NV, or IV and enrolled in 5 credit classes. Students are required to pay a participation fee of $100 per activity.

  2. No student may participate in the athletic program without insurance coverage. Participants who do not have a family medical insurance policy, must purchase a school insurance plan at the high school's main office or Healthy Kids.

  3. The Athletic Participation Contract outlines behavioral expectations for TRSD athletes. Both the athlete and their parent are required to read the contract and sign it. -

  4. In order to participate in an athletic contest or practice, the student MUST be in full attendance for at lease 4 periods that day unless pre-excused for a valid reason.

HOW TO JOIN A TEAM

STEP 1. REGISTRATION / PAYMENT OF FEES

Athletes must complete the process for registration at their High School and be enrolled in at least five credit classes. Students are required to pay a participation fee of $100. These fees must be paid before an athlete may participate in practice or games. Students and parents are required to read and sign off on the STUDENT ATHLETIC AND EXTRA CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES HANDBOOK (SIGN OFF FORM)

STEP 2. PHYSICAL EXAMINATION / EMERGENCY INFORMATION FORM AND INSURANCE

All athletes must have an Oregon Physical Examination form on file in the Athletic Director's office. Physicals are required in the 9th and 11th grades to participate in the athletic program. You may also get the physical from your family physician, as long as it is done on the Oregon Physical Examination form. In the 10th and 12th grades, an annual Medical History form must be completed and filed in the Athletic Director's office. ATHLETIC INSURANCE – No student may participate in the athletic program without insurance coverage. For participants who do not have medical insurance through a family policy, the appropriate school insurance plan may be purchased in the high school's main office.

STEP 3. ATHLETIC PARTICIPATION CONTRACT

Behavioral expectations for athletes are contained in this document. Both the athlete and his/her parent are required to read and sign the Code of Conduct and Athletic Contract. By signing the contract on this form, you are agreeing to abide by the terms of both the Code of Conduct and the Athletic Contract.
